.less - boot kamp [mp3 mixes]
« on: March 17, 2009, 08:20:37 PM »
I'm learning to mix with cd & mp3 at the moment, to check if i really want to do it  ;)
I hope to get some decent gear and acquire the so needy vinyl and newer tracks.
In the meanwhile, here are some training moments of pleasure, brilliance and shame.

A 25 min d&b mix .

2h30 min of mainly older tracks i listened to last month.

It's more a playlist than anything else. I fuck up very badly at times, but don't let it spoil te fun, it's a history lesson here [*kuch].
The best mix is around 1 h, mixing Dee Rex - Rising Strings with the whole of Code 20 - Progressive House.
Very nice, you should try to mix it yourself if you have them.
First 45 minutes are a lot of tracks played by Steve Mason 1992-3, if you know his style, added with some R&S records and XL rec.
It then turns into anthems, Meteor Seven, Dee Rex, hard dance (Steve Thomas), then some techno by Umek, technotrance by Midi Miliz, and acidic goa by Electric Universe and Goa Syndrome.
From 80 - 115 some well known acid techno. to finish that part, i mix 'Mad Cows' with Spicelab - Amorph, which leads back to trance again, now from the Bonzai label, finishing off with some bouncy hardcore by Scott Brown and the monster track Wedlock - Pababam.
Tempo 120 - 155.
Tracklist here : http://users.telenet.be/.less/history%20lessons.rtf

At last some acidtekno excerpt.

Sensory Overload - mononom 5
Mononom - 01010
Nick East on Drop Bass ??
Curley - Mayhem
69 dB - Fuck tekno import A
Spiral Tribe - R-zac 23 - don't take the piss
Beverly Hills 808303
Chris Liberator - Black Star Rising
Junk Project - Braintool

Working on a techno solely mix, maybe next week.

 :boohoo:

Yes, maybe you're (partly) right, but let me have my fun  :cheersad:

Besides, what about podcasts and that stuff ?

Are you against digital mixing, or just that it are mp3's, e.g. lower quality ?
I thought playing records was about telling a story or getting people to know new music, no ?
Let me state this clear, i'm not interested in making a name for myself or playing mp3's in public legal circuits ((horrible !), i just want to share some illegaly downloaded stuff of what i like, and if i could mix it well  . I do a good job here in promoting tha real dj's out there, by showing mixing is not as easy as it seems, it's not about letting the pitch control everything, but passion about it, pattern recognition, groove, build ups, whatever ...
If i will play out, logical outcome of me mixing well, all of it vinyl & wave files will be legally bought with respect to the artists.

Greetings,

Wouter

goooo .less

I also started mixing with computer (Virtual DJ - one of the easiest, simplest programs u can get) and only started mixing with vynil (about a year ago) after I had some positive replies from friends

off course it's not as easy as mixing mp's on your computer, but if ur having fun with it, why would u stop doing it? I also enjoyed myself making mixes with VDJ, and I don't feel a bit sorry I made them

so don't let haters talk u down, keep on mixing and if u feel ready to try out vynil or final scratch or whatever you want, do it
