After the first successful edition last November De:tuned returns right before the start of summer with another old school techno party not to be missed. For those who are not yet familiar with the De:tuned concept here’s a brief introduction. De:tuned was started by DJs Bonny and Konnekt to promote the distinct sound of 90s techno music and to recreate, however briefly, the unique atmosphere and vibe that could be found at parties more than a decade ago when techno was still a novelty. At the previous De:tuned party guest DJs G-Force aka Stanny Franssen and last-minute replacement Deg from Fuse set the tone for all future editions. Our next guest is another four-star Belgian DJ who helped shape the Belgian techno scene: Steve Cop.

Steve Cop, hailing from Antwerp, started messing around with records in 1988 at the tender age of 16. He was influenced by Sven Van Hees, another Antwerp DJ, from whom he received mix tapes. Steve started playing at local parties and it didn’t take long before his talent was recognised and bigger bookings started to come in. After a gig in Brussels he was contacted by R&S label owner Renaat Vandepapeliere to do some studio work for the label together with none other than CJ Bolland. This led to the Sonic Solution project with 5 vinyl releases on R&S between 1991 and 1994. The Sonic Solution tracks became instant club hits and were especially popular in the early 90s UK rave scene where tracks such as Quest and Music were played by DJs across the board.

As a DJ Steve has held down residencies at all major Belgian clubs at some point during his career and has played around the globe. He started at La Rocca in Lier together with Eric B with whom he also played at Boccaccio in Ghent. After 2,5 years at La Rocca Steve moved to Café D’Anvers where he shared the decks with DJ Koenie. Because CdA was also very popular in the Netherlands, Steve got invited to play at a lot of parties over there. In 1994 Fuse opened its doors in Brussels and Steve was asked to play on a regular basis. After that he had another regular club in Waregem called Cirao Dance Hall. In the meantime Steve played as a guest DJ in clubs all over the world from Rex Club in Paris to Chili (South America), Cocorico in Rimini (Italy) and other countries and even performed a DJ set on the catwalk for Dirk Van Saenen’s Transformations fashion show in Paris. In the late nineties Steve could be seen in the DJ booth at The Scene techno club in Oudenaarde together with Zzino from Re-load Records and at the Loop techno parties which were held at Silo in Leuven.

Nowadays Steve enjoys family life and occasionally can be seen spinning old school sets solo or together with Tomaz (Switch, StuBru). Throughout his career Steve has shared the decks with all the major players in the techno scene such as Carl Craig, Derrick May, Stacey Pullen, Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier, Sven Vath and many more. He will perform a special 3 hour old school techno set at De:tuned. Do not miss one of the true Belgian techno pioneers!

As per usual the line-up is completed by resident DJs and promoters Bonny and Konnekt. Doors open at 22h, entrance is €5. All this will take place at 10R20, Grote Markt 41 in Herentals. Hope to see you there!
