"Introduction to circuit bending and DIY electronics" by Familiar
This will be a hands-on introduction to circuit bending and DIY electronics.
Circuit bending is producing errors in the normal functioning of a circuit. So these errors can be used in a creative way to produce sounds or videos.
Attendants will learn basic bending techniques while modifying a toy or circuit.
(Not included in price, attendant need to bring a toy)
They will be guided in all moments, provided with information and materials to do a few basic circuit bending.
Circuits suitable to be bent are old toys from the eighties (Casio keyboards or similar, educational toy), 8-bit Game consoles or kids toys in general.
It's also possible to do advanced bending using LTC1799 or to add MIDI to the Korg monotribe using kits that will be available during the workshop.
Suitable instruments for circuit bendings are Kaossilators, kaoss pads or gameboys.

Come and design the album cover for the DIY festival.
Workshop is given by Johnny Brankaert, a fourth years student at Willem de Kooning. In this workshop we are going to design with recycled materials to build the new album cover for DIY festival.
After the festival your mix will be send to your home address

- ‘’Analog circuitry” lecture by Cedric Stevens
the purpose of this lecture is to share personal history & knowledge of the analogue modular system as an incredibly organic ultra-flexible tool to create powerful sounds & articulate pieces of music
phase 1: initiation to modular system patching thru basic technical explanations of the electric properties & phenomenons of analogue synthesis.
phase 2: design of a drone piece in real time by superposition of layers of patches made in collaboration with the audience.
phase 3: live performance (100% analogue & electric) that illustrates how my own experimentations with analog circuitry has shaped the essence of his music.
